Criteria

Membership in VIRA is open to all running-oriented organizations or running clubs, and running-related businesses or businesses that host running events. Business members of VIRA may only use the VIRA insurance (see below) for non-profit events. Members must provide a VIRA representative who is available to speak on behalf of the member organization and to vote at VIRA meetings. Attendance and voting at meetings is optional for members without races in the Frontrunners Island Race Series. No proxy voting is permitted.  Email voting is permitted.

Costs

Membership in the Vancouver Island Runners' Association (VIRA) costs $100 per year for regular members and $200 per year for members with races in the Frontrunners Island Race Series. Member fees are invoiced and payable in January and require signing of a franchise agreement for Series races.

Benefits

All paid-up members of VIRA have the benefit of a single vote in one of four meetings held throughout the year.

VIRA members also obtain access to the VIRA insurance, which provides $5,000,000 Liability Insurance Policy for member hosted events. The insurance covers the event organizers and all of the member club's directors during the conduct of running business. This policy only covers foot races and does not apply to multi-sport events such as duathlons or triathlons, cycling, swimming or field events. Hosted events cannot have wheelchairs (except on closed courses), skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles or animals.
